Democrats Getting Religion

In an article on CNN.com Roland S. Martin succeeded in getting my morning started with a migrane. See the article here:

Go ahead and read it, I'll wait. I need a moment to let the steam cool before I pop.

In a nation that is supposed to have a "wall of separation" between church and state we have to deal with politicians pandering to the religious. It makes me sick. Why does it matter? Here in the real world we have people dying because of government and religion mixing. In Texas we have a teen pregnancy and STD rate that would be shameful for a central African nation. Why? Our teachers are required to teach abstinence only education. Here is a fun fact, condoms save lives. When religious idiots start tampering in government, they ignore facts for faith and people die.

Roland goes out of the way to mention the religious hot button issues of homosexuality and abortion as things the Democrats need to address. They have. Democrats have come out against bigotry and hatred and stopped the ridiculous marriage amendments where they could. Frankly they need to come out and further grant the same rights enjoyed by married couples to same sex couples. Who a person loves should not make them a second class citizen. On the abortion issue, there are many perfectly valid reasons for terminating a pregnancy. The bottom line is that a woman's body is hers and hers alone. If she doesn't want to give birth it is her right to not drop something the size of a watermelon through her pelvis. Deal with it.

The bottom line is that faith is simply an unwillingness to continue seeking the truth. While that may work for most on a personal level we have to find a clear and evidence based path for our society. There is no evidence for ANY religion so it has no place in public policy.

It is only 9:51 a.m. and I already need a scotch...
